Amendments to Malaysia’s legislation relating to tourism tax (TTx) and the departure levy (DLv) were gazetted on 18 October 2022, which include measures to grant certain additional administrative powers to the Minister of Finance (“Minister”) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD). The amendments are not yet effective and will come into operation on a date to be appointed by the Minister. In addition, the RMCD has announced that effective as from 1 October 2022, digital platform service providers (DPSPs) are able to register for TTx.
