The UAE’s Federal Tax Authority (FTA) announced the world’s first paperless tax refund scheme for tourists.
Khalid Ali Al Bustani, director-general of the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), said the system had been linked with the retailers; hence all the receipts will be generated electronically, and tourists will not have to carry paper receipts of their purchases in order to claim VAT refunds.
Al Bustani was speaking at a press conference on Wednesday which was attended by senior officials of the FTA, Planet Tax, Seddiqi Holding, Rasool Khoory, GMG and Apparel.
