Czechia joined the European Union (EU) in 2004 and this is the second occasion in which the country holds the rotating Council Presidency (previous occasion took place in 2009). The Czech Council Presidency is the second of a Presidency Trio also comprising France and Sweden. The motto of this Presidency is Europe as a Task: Rethink, Rebuild, Repower.
The main priorities of the Czech Presidency include:
- Managing the refugee crisis and Ukraine’s post-war recovery;
- Energy security;
- Strengthening Europe’s defence capabilities and cyberspace security;
- Strategic resilience of the European economy;
- Resilience of democratic institutions.
