The Japanese government has introduced electronic invoicing and is still working on it since July 2020. The E-invoice Promotion Association is called EIPA responsible for developing digitalization of the invoices and fiscal documents and “Eligible Invoice Storage System (Invoice System)” will launch both the new system and qualified invoices within 2022. From October 2023 qualified invoices have to be issued and processed by registered issuers. To become a “qualified invoice issuer”, the issuers must be registered.
