Sri Lanka Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ranil Wickremesinghe has proposed an increase in value added tax (VAT) from 8 percent to 12 percent and a hike in the telecommunication levy from 11.25 percent to 15 percent with immediate effect, the prime minister’s office said.
