The lower house of the Jamaican government approved an order exempting lithium-ion batteries from the general consumption tax (GCT).
Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Dr. the Hon. Nigel Clarke, informed that the goal of the government is to actively and swiftly increase the usage of renewable energy sources. In that energy shift, lithium-ion batteries will be crucial, adding that they are also assisting with the strategy of promoting electric cars.
