Further to our previous posts about the Swiss VAT rate, our Swiss contributor (Christoph Meier) has provided an update.
The VAT rate change is currently planned for 1 January 2024. The standard VAT rate would increase from 7.7% to 8.1%, while the reduced rate of 2.5% would increase to 2.6%. The special rate for accommodation would increase from 3.7% to 3.8%.
However, this will only happen if the referendum will receive sufficient votes. The voting is scheduled on 25 September 2022.
The main reason behind this change is the reform of the Swiss pension system (” “old age and survivors’ insurance”).
