The Central Government has notified a four-year extension to the GST compensation cess till June, 2026. The notification issued on Friday stated that “the period for levy and collection of cess under sub-section (1) of section 8 of the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017 shall be upto the March, 2026. ” In June, 2022, the Union Finance Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharam hinted about giving a five-year extension to the compensation to the States.
