On Thursday, May 19, 2022 , the Bundestag passed the temporary reduction in the energy tax for fuels starting June 1, 2022.
A corresponding draft law by the SPD, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and FDP to amend energy tax law (20/1741 ) was adopted with the votes of the coalition factions, with the opposition factions CDU/CSU, AfD and Die Linke abstaining. The decision was based on a recommendation from the Finance Committee (20/1883 ) and a report of the budget committee according to paragraph 96 of the rules of procedure of the Bundestag (20/1891 ) for financing. A motion for a resolution submitted by the CDU/CSU parliamentary group on the draft law (20/1893 ), which calls for extensions for the temporary reduction in energy taxes on electricity and fuel, was rejected.
