Gas prices in some states are expected to rise on Friday as federal carbon taxes rise.
The federal carbon tax will increase by 25% on April 1st, for a total of $ 50 per ton of emissions. For pumps, the federal government estimates an additional charge of 2.2 cents per liter of gas, for a total of 11 cents per liter.
Increased costs will hurt drivers in Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. These states do not have their own carbon pricing schemes.
