The Greek Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, recently stated the government’s intention to further extend the reduced VAT rates provided for catering, transport, gyms, cinemas, and theaters beyond the currently scheduled end date of 30 June 2022. In addition, the government intends to make permanent the 3.0% reduction in social security (insurance) contributions, which is scheduled to expire 31 December 2022, and abolish the solidarity contribution from 2023, which is currently suspended through 2022. Minister Staikouras noted these plans during a recent teleconference with members of the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen.
