Aruba Initiates Fiscal Reforms Including VAT System

The Aruba government has announced that the Tax Department has been instructed to initiate the process for fiscal reforms, which includes the adoption of a VAT system. The adoption of a VAT system was one of the conditions that Aruba agreed to in order to received funding from the Dutch government, which was needed as a result of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tax Department is organizing multiple stakeholder meetings from 22 February to 4 March 2022 to share information about the entire process that led to the fiscal reform, what will follow, and the importance of the involvement of the unions and the community. Although not specified in the release, the VAT system is to be implemented from 1 January 2023. Further details will be published once available.
