In order to reduce the energy bill, the VAT on electricity is temporarily reduced. From March 1 to July 1, the rate will fall from 21 to 6%. The VAT on gas, which emits more CO2, remains unchanged. There will be an energy check of 100 euros.
CO2 reform
The dilemma faced by the government was that gas is expensive, but less taxed than electricity, which is often generated more ecologically. Therefore, a VAT reform will be launched with a cliquet system. This means that the VAT no longer falls completely in line with price decreases, which makes it possible to apply a different energy tax without immediately chasing the consumer at extra costs.
