The European Commission confirmed on Wednesday December 22, 2021 that it will soon be possible to introduce a zero VAT rate on food. The current regulations do not allow this yet. This will, however, be made possible by changes to the VAT Directive. Member States will have more flexibility to apply lower VAT rates.
