- FEC (Fichier d’Ecritures Comptables) is a file summarizing taxpayers’ accounting records and was created as the French version of SAF-T.
- It must be presented to tax authorities upon request by a tax auditor, within 15 days of receiving the audit notification.
- Failure to provide an FEC or providing an incomplete or non-compliant one may lead to the rejection of all bookkeeping and related returns and taxes.
- The French tax authority provides four different XML schemas for FEC, with mandatory fields varying from 18 to 22 depending on the tax regime.
- The first numbers of accounting entries in the file correspond to the entries for the recovery of balances from the previous financial year.
- The file is made up of entries after inventory operations, excluding centralization entries and balance and expense account entry entries.
- When a taxpayer liable to income tax in the category of non-commercial or agricultural profits keeps accounts according to commercial law, the file of accounting entries contains all the accounting data appearing in the computerized accounting system of the company, with the first 18 pieces being mandatory fields.
