Today the Tax Agency received the Innovation Award in Public Management awarded by the Ministry of Territorial Policy and Public Function for the digitization of the VAT refund process for travelers (‘DIVA’). The system is already implemented in 58 airports, ports and land customs in Spain to facilitate the refund of the tax to non-resident travelers in the European Union.
The Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function, Miquel Iceta, has presented the award to the general director of the Tax Agency, Jesús Gascón, within the framework of the XIII edition of the ‘Awards for Quality and Innovation in Public Management’, held in Madrid.
With this award, the complete digitization of the VAT refund process for travelers is recognized as an innovative practice in public management and the consequent overcoming of the inconveniences that the old manual system for the sealing of documents proving the right to tax refund.
The Tax Agency has aligned in this project the necessary work of tax and customs control and its commitment to public service, creating a process of high added value within shopping tourism.
