Declaration by the customs offices of transit in a transit declaration for goods destined for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
On 1 January 2021, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (‘the United Kingdom’) acceded to the Convention on a common transit procedure (‘the Convention’). Consequently, this affects the declaration of the customs offices of transit in the transit declaration for goods destined for the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. We note that in transit declarations there are cases where the customs offices of transit are not declared or they are incorrectly declared. Sometimes there is also ambiguity, e.g. when a transit consignment travels from a Contracting Party to the Convention, through the customs territory of the Union, to a Contracting Party to the Convention.
