One step taken was to support the market by reducing the burden of customs duties and value added tax (VAT). The Commission authorised requests from Member States to suspend temporarily customs duties and VAT on the import of medical equipment from nonEU countries. It defined an indicative list of goods, such as personal protective equipment, testing kits, ventilators and key medicines. This will now be extended to April 2021.
