In the farm-to-table strategy of European Commissioner Frans Timmermans, the target is to increase the area under organic cultivation in Europe to 25 percent. In the Netherlands, that area is over 4 percent. In order to achieve the European target, the Netherlands should no longer levy VAT on organic products or introduce ‘true cost accounting’, whereby the social costs are settled. That is what Bionext advocates, the trade association for organic farmers.
