Returning to school this fall may be more virtual than physical, but some things haven’t changed: The first weekend in August marks the unofficial kickoff to the back-to-school shopping season. And that means no state and local sales taxes will be collected on school supplies costing less than $20 per item – book bags, notebooks, calculators, pens and pencils – along with most clothing and footwear (no more than $100 per item).
The sales tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning (Aug. 7) and extends through Sunday evening (Aug. 9) at 11:59 p.m.
