As the four countries of the UK start to ease their lockdown restrictions and some sort of return to normality is on the horizon, private sector student accommodation providers may struggle if the economic conditions don’t improve rapidly to allow students to return to universities. This, combined with some universities providing virtual lessons for next year and the lack of overseas students studying in the UK, is likely to reduce the projected or actual revenue streams to be earned and/or refunded from student accommodation lets. These market forces may mean that developers and operators of current and completed developments of student accommodation look to change and adapt the buildings for use by other occupants.
