Tax authority’s IT systems criticised after three outages in 3 days.
Thousands of businesses and their accountants were locked out of an online tax portal with many unable to file value added tax returns this week because HM Revenue & Customs’ flagship “Making Tax Digital” service crashed three times in as many days. The HMRC programme requires around 1.3m businesses with more than £85,000 turnover to send digital records for accounting periods via compatible software.
