Romania operated a ‘split payment regime’, whereby the net amount and the VAT amount had to paid/processed on separate bank accounts. The EU Commission declared that the way Romania implemented this regime, was an unnecessary burden for businesses. Romania now decided to abolish the split payment regime as of 1 February 2020.
