- Mandatory linking from January 1, 2026: Italian merchants must connect electronic cash registers (registratori telematici) with electronic payment instruments (e.g., POS systems) using a dedicated online service provided by the Revenue Agency (AdE), as required by the 2025 Budget Law.
- Online procedure and deadlines: Linking is done via AdE’s reserved area by associating the cash register’s serial number with payment instrument data. For devices in use by January 2026, registration must occur within 45 days of the service launch; future updates must be completed within two months of activation.
- No physical connection needed: The integration is entirely digital, aiming to streamline compliance and improve transaction traceability. Operational details and timelines will be published on AdE’s official website starting March 2026.
