Tax evasion of Rs 2.01 lakh crore was detected in FY 2023-24, nearly double from Rs 1.01 lakh crore in the previous year. Mumbai topped with Rs 70,985 crore, followed by Delhi, Pune, Gurugram, and Hyderabad. Real money online gaming and BFSI were the most evasion-prone sectors, while iron, copper, scrap & alloys, and pan masala, tobacco, cigarette and bidi were the most evasion-prone goods sectors. 6,084 cases were detected, with voluntary payment of Rs 26,605 crore in 4,520 cases.
