This week, the first group of people with a sole trader receives a new VAT identification number (VAT ID) from the tax authorities. In total, around 1.3 million entrepreneurs will receive this new VAT ID this month. The entrepreneur’s citizen service number is no longer included in the new VAT ID. This way the privacy of the entrepreneur is better guaranteed. The new VAT ID is valid from January 1, 2020. The Tax Authorities are already sending the letters this month, so that an entrepreneur can already make preparations, such as changing letterhead and informing their accountant.
